FPS Environment Pack #1 Documentation

General Notes
Known Issues

There is a know Known issue with OpenAL sound and reloading levels which can cause audio errors. Please see TGE known issues section of the SDK documentation for a detailed explanation.

There is a known TLK bug that prevents large dts objects from casting shadows far enough to easily be seen.

Regarding the included source art. I have provided the original LightWave scene and object files. I have also included Maya conversions and .3ds format for Max users. The .3ds files lost their respective surface smoothing values in the conversion.

The dts objects created in Lightwave have a material "unnamed" assigned to them by default. Although it is not rendered, the absence of this texture will result in a console error, so a low resolution place holder texture has been provided.

I removed the specular map from the windows of the few building that utilized it. This is part of the Port ans support for the TGEA version of this pack, which is under development.

General Design Notes

I originally planned a number of content packs to cover all of the subject matter in this project, but some where along the way it all became one big undertaking. The up side is that the demo environment has a little scope and variety to it. But the down side is that no particular element received the development attention I would like to have given it.

Each setting, the Farmland, the Cemetery, and the Dock Town, could have easily been a separate project. However, the over all result is not bad, and I hope you find it useful.

With the latest update, I have expanded the themes to include Autumn, Spring, and Summer, as well as a variety of atmospheric settings.

My primary design goal was to develop an immersive environment. I also wanted to utilize a number of special elements like, animated shapes and extensive audio design, to help bring the environment to life, and create a content pack and an experience for the user which I hoped would both assist and inspire their own game project.

Garage Games continues to provided the inde community with a wonderfully versatile and affordable development environment. I hope that the content I have provided helps you to achieve your design and development goals.
